On September 25, 2010, Georgians will get their opportunity to support the cause by participating in the inaugural Children of Fallen Patriots Gala at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead. Co-chairs Mary Jo and Bill Riddle and Barbara and David Roos are hoping Atlantans will make a statement by selling out the event.

Would you honor the life of a soldier with an education for his child?
Sgt. William Delaney Gibbs, died December 20, 1989 during Operation Just Cause
On December 20, 1989, more than 27,000 U.S. Troops were deployed to the country of Panama. Operation Just Cause began at 0100 local time and occurred just five days after General Noriega and Panama’s assembly declared a state of war existed between the U.S. and Panama and four days after an unarmed U.S. Marine was shot to death by Panamanian soldiers.
Sergeant William Delaney Gibbs, a member of the 7th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army was one of 23 killed during the invasion, leaving behind a wife and unborn daughter. David Y. Kim served with Gibbs. Kim became a partner at private equity investment group Apax Partners in 1994 and never forgot the family Gibbs left behind.
He would eventually connect with Gibbs’ now grown daughter, Delaney, struggling to fund and manage her college education. Delaney became Kim’s inspiration for the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, an organization he founded that provides college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who lost a parent in the line of duty.
I am writing to tell you about an event Barbara and I are c0-chairing with our good friends Mary Jo and Bill Riddle. It is the inaugural Atlanta benefit for the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation – a foundation with the mission to provide college scholarships to military children who have lost a parent in combat or training.
It is estimated that thousands of children across the country need the aid that the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation provides. To date, the Foundation has raised more than $1.2 million.
Mary Jo and Bill have known the foundation founders, Cynthia and David Kim for many years. David is a 1988 graduate of West Point and lost a fellow soldier, Sgt. William Delaney Gibbs, in Operation Just Cause. Today, Gibbs’ daughter is earning an education thanks to the work of the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.
The organization has recruited an exceptional Board of Advisors including Mrs. Holly Petraeus.
Our Atlanta event is scheduled for September 25th at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead. Please consider a sponsorship to this worthwhile event. The Foundation provides 100% of all donations to the children with the board covering all operating expenses.
This cause has touched our hearts and is very important to Barbara and me. Thank you for your consideration.
David (Duke) I. Roos, Jr.
